Desarae Lee‘s

Sketchbook JournalingArtistPic

November 1-10, 2016

Contignano, Italy

Lisa’s Gryphon is excited to welcome Desarae Lee to Tuscany in 2016!

When I first met Desarae this past year, I was charmed, not only by her lovely artwork, but also by her genuine love and enthusiasm for art. It shows in her finished pieces, but also in her philosophy, which she shared with me.

She says: “There are places inside of a person that no one else can possibly understand and about which I could never communicate with words.  My drawings are an attempt to connect those hidden places in myself to the hidden places in the viewer, to create a bridge of communication over the vast expanse of our differing perceptions, languages, and experiences.”

She adds, “My goal in teaching this class is to help people see art and sketchbook journaling as a method PolarBear (2)through which they can communicate their thoughts and feelings about their experiences.  To achieve this goal, we’ll start by becoming comfortable with and developing skills in pen, drawing and watercolor.  We will learn about drawing from life, how to use and mix color, how to create value with ink, and how to portray perspective in two-dimensions.  Throughout the class, we will put our skills to use while we travel through Italy, using sketchbook journaling to soak up and be affected by the local culture.

If you are an experienced sketchbook journal-keeper, or you would like to become one, then this opportunity is for you! Come with us to Italy to play and learn while experiencing the beauty that is Tuscany’s alone. This workshop is open to all levels, and Desarae’s genuine love of people will be evident as she willingly shares her knowledge and tips with you, so that you can create a memory book that you will cherish and enjoy sharing with friends and family.

Over 10 days, you will have the chance to work alongside a fabulous artist, savoring the experiences of the

Italian landscape and recording them in your own sketchbook. You will work with pen and ink, watercolor and watercolor pencils, capturing the memories that abound in this peaceful spot. No doubt you’ll learn some new techniques and perhaps be introduced to some new tools that you will want to incorporate into your own artwork.

Sketchbook journals have become the new way of “keeping the memories alive” for years to come and yours will become a gift that you’ll enjoy opening again and again after your return home.
