The Digital Artist with International Fine-Art Photographer and Author, Theresa Airey

Sept 15-24 (departing the 25th), 2018

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the second time for the “Digital Artist” in Italy…. Tuscany at its finest!

Below Theresa describes her workshop:

“I studied at the Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) in Florence in 2012 and have traveled and photographed in Italy many times.

Tuscany is one of my favorite places in the world to photograph – rolling majestic landscapes, vineyards, castles, plane trees, hill-towns, cypress trees, sunflower fields,
Etruscan villages …What more could you ask for?”

We will be staying at La Montalla in Contignano, in the Tuscan region that contains
the Val D’Orcia. La Montalla is a 16th century farmhouse villa that has all the
amenities you would want, including a lovely swimming pool overlooking the
countryside and large bedrooms.

The transportation for our excursions will be in comfortable vans with careful and
skillful drivers who know the area well.

We will take three all-day outings to photograph, most likely to Siena (one hour
drive), Orvieto and Bagnara- (one hour drive), and one more (perhaps
Montepulciano) …to be decided later.

All offer outstanding photographic opportunities. Then we shall drive on our studio days for a short photo-shoots for sunrise and sunset opportunities…or if
we hear about something interesting such as last year– — We drove to San
Antigo Abbey to photograph and hear Gregorian Chanting by the Monks and we
got a bonus outside, as all the olive trees were lighted from underneath…made
for a magical unexpected night shoot as well.

The other days will be spent in the studio, on the porch patio or around the pool
creating painterly images.

There is also an optional luncheon at the Banfi Castle near Montalcino with a
private tour of the vineyard and winery. * not included in the workshop price, but
not to be missed! Last year the luncheon was the hit of the workshop.

Per Theresa: “I will be teaching creative imaging on the iPad, iPhone and Laptop. We
shall take the photos on our outings and create unique images on our studio
days… using some great new software and creative apps. I will also teach
Infrared Photography during the day and if there is a clear star- studded sky and
if there is a desire to see or learn that aspect of capturing night skies– We will do
so. I  will demo and assist those who wish to digitally collage images
together. A FULL ten days!”

All meals are provided at the villa, however we shall eat a total of 4 meals out *(not included in retreat price) during the workshop: either two lunches and two dinners or three lunches and
one dinner according to our time constraints whilst on photographing shoots. The
most important thing is getting the shot at the right time of day.

In this workshop, you will learn how to photograph with your iPhones using great camera apps (list will be

sent out a couple of weeks before leaving for the
workshop) and how to create great artistic images on your iPhone/iPad and
Laptop using the newest and best apps and software available (again a list of
software and creative apps will be sent out before the workshop.) We shall work
as a group and individual attention will be given during the outings as well as in
the studio (or around the pool.) Come with an open mind, leave with it full of
ideas and new visions!

YOU WILL NEED:
1. A camera of your choice. Theresa suggests you go light and take one or two
lenses only. She says: “I take a 14mm to 150mm (all around travel lens) and a
long lens…such as a 75mm to 300mm.”

Or if you’d like to concentrate just on iPhone Photography, leave your “big girl/big
boy” camera at home. You can take amazing photos with that little phone! Per
Theresa: “I have an Apple iPhone X now. Sometimes I get better images with
the iPhone than with my Big Girl camera, which is a four-thirds mirror less
camera (Olympus OM-D- EM 5 MARK II). I travel light.”

2. IPhone and/or and iPad for creating images.

3. Laptop (Optional). You can take notes and watch demos on Theresa’s laptop
and just work on your iPhone or iPad. Then work on your laptop when you get
home. Theresa will be giving out lots of notes for doing a technique later on the
laptop.

4. A converted IR camera. (If you wish to try IR) Theresa will have a Panasonic
point and shoot LX5 for borrowing on a shared basis, if you are not sure you wish
to get into Infrared Photography but would like to try it out whilst in Italy.
Per Theresa: ” I have an Olympus OM D-E- M10 camera converted to a full-
spectrum IR camera that also has an Astro conversion. I use Spencer’s Camera
at www.spencerscamera.com to do my conversions.

This means I can shoot IR, Astro and full color on the same camera body, using
filters on the lenses! Pretty cool!! My lens on my full spectrum camera is a 12mm
to 40mm, which is a 24mm to 80mm comparable to 35mm photography. I like a
wide-angle lens for my IR work.”

However, you do not need any special camera to do star photography, but you
will need a tripod. Your ISO will be high, so you will pick up a bit of noise, but we
can handle that post-editing.
